Name:
Preston Malin Carter Jr, 64
Died:
Monday, June 21, 2010, in Weatherford, Texas
Preston Malin Carter was born November 25, 1945 to Hilda and Jack Carter
in Texarkana, Texas and passed away June 21, 2010 at his ranch in
Weatherford, Texas. Preston attended the University of Texas at Austin,
and remained a lifelong Longhorns fan. After college, Preston began a
successful career in commercial real estate by starting the Preston Carter
Company and Carter Properties. For decades he developed many projects
throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area including the West End Historic
District, Lone Star Park, and Silverado on the Brazos. Preston also had
an esteemed career in the equestrian world. He won the All American
Futurity Quarter Horse Race in 1983, the US Open in Polo in 1985, and was
inducted into the Texas Racehorse Hall of Fame in 2007. In more recent
years, he and his family have been involved in the cutting horse business.
Most importantly, Preston was a devoted father and husband who was loved
dearly by his family and friends. He will always be remembered and deeply
missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Preston Malin Carter III.
He is survived by his wife Amy Carter, son Rhett James Alan Carter,
daughters Natalie Elizabeth Carter and Keely Edith Rose Carter, sisters
Sissy Carter Alsabrook, husband Roger, and Catherine Ann Carter, as well
as many nieces and nephews. Preston is also survived by his beloved dogs,
horses, and animals at the ranch.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Michael Overman M.D.
and the MD Anderson staff, Dr. Bryan Allison M.D., Dr. Emily Hebert M.D.,
and the entire staff at Baylor Hospital for their care and compassion
during Preston's fight with cancer.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 27th at 4:00pm at The Carter
Ranch (in Silverado on the Brazos, Weatherford, TX). Father Scott Wilson
will be officiating. Ranch attire is suggested. In lieu of flowers,
please consider a memorial donation to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, SPCA
of Dallas, or Equest.
