Rufus Alonzo (Lonnie) Ivie, Jr., 98, passed away Tuesday, July 27th in Arlington. Irene Williams Ivie, 99, passed away Wednesday, July 28th in Arlington.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5th at White's Funeral Home Chapel, 105 Denver Trail, Azle.
Interment: Tarleton Cemetery.
Reverend Ed Malone will be officiating.
Dr. Ivie was born February 11, 1912 in Beeville to R. A. Ivie, Sr. and Lida Fowler Ivie.
He graduated from Beeville High School, South Texas State in San Marcos and the University of Texas Dental School in Houston.
Irene was born March 27, 1911 in Pauls Valley, OK to Alfred Riley and Mary Dunaway Williams. She was a graduate of Tolar High School.
Lonnie practiced dentistry in Mineral Wells until serving as a Major in the United States Army during World War II. After returning from the war, Lonnie and Irene lived in Mineral Wells until 1956 when they moved to Azle. Dr. Ivie was Azle's first dentist. He practiced in Azle until retirement in 1977. Dr. Ivie was elected to life membership in the American Dental Association in 1997.
He was an avid golfer and was still shooting his age until he was in his mid 80's.
Lonnie and Irene were members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
They are survived by their daughter, Yvonne Adcock and husband, Tom, of Arlington; son, Lonnie Ivie and wife, Vivian, of Keller; granddaughters, Lisa Adcock Riedel and fiance, Shawn Barton, of Reading, PA, Tina Adcock-Thomas and husband, Tadd, of Bella Vista, AR, Candice Ivie Charles and husband, Scott, of Euless; great grandchildren, Garrett and Marissa Riedel and Tristan, Jake and Koby Thomas; other family members, Hubert Denson, Louise Duncan and Jeff Riedel.
